Importance Of Memories:
The importance of memories are crucial when you think about it. Memories are what make us who we are, but when taken away, we have to rebuild ourselves. This is what all of the boys in The Maze Runner had to deal with. They didn’t have the memories of their loved ones to keep them sane, or the hopes of some day returning to their past lives because, according to them, they were nonexistent. I believe this was the goal of the cult because instead of hope, they had them experience the maze with only their pure skill to guide them. Memories of the past would have affected them emotionally distracting them from the real problem at hand; escaping. The reasoning behind the extraction of their pasts was not out of bitterness from WICKED, but to help them achieve better results for the experiment. No hope meant that they would have no connections to the past, leaving them dazed and confused, resulting in better analyzation for the experiment. Also, the boys may have known each other in the past, creating either barriers, or bridges between certain friendships or enemies. The affects of not having memories showed the boys that they would need to bond together as a team and as a brotherhood to find an escaped from the maze in which they were trapped.
